Learn moreEstablished in 1936, Muscadet-Sèvre-et-Maine is one of the very first French appellations. Combining a terroir made up of ancient rocks and distinctive winemaking techniques based on maturation on fine lees, its wines find more than one way to be unique.
With its characteristic minerality and finesse, Clos des Orfeuilles embodies the richness of the region’s geology and the subtlety of its traditional winemaking techniques. While the wine’s contemporary profile is a reflection of a recent renaissance in the Muscadet, it is above all an homage to a remarkable appellation.
Returning to its roots in the vines and in the winery, the property has been certified Organic (AB) since the 2012 vintage.
The Clos des Orfeuilles vineyard is a genuine mineral treasure. Gneiss, orthogneiss, quartz, amphibolite provide the soils with exceptional quality and diversity.
These soils, from which the appellation’s signature Melon de Bourgogne draws its freshness and character, represent a veritable mosaic of terroirs.
At Clos des Orfeuilles, a former windmill dating back to the eighteenth century marks the vineyard’s central point. Surrounding the remaining tower are four plots of vines, making up a total of 18.5 hectares.
Thanks to a plot by plot approach to winemaking and aging, Clos des Orfeuilles remains a unified expression of its four distinct terroirs, which maintain their individuality in the final blend.
